Research Skills for all Students - Graduate Course
In recent years, educators across the country have increasingly realized the importance of teaching research skills in K-12 classrooms. In Colorado, this acknowledgement is highlighted by the inclusion of “Research, Inquiry, and Design” in the State Standards. Likewise, California’s Common Core Standards states “To be ready for college, workforce training, and life in a technological society, students need the ability to gather, comprehend, evaluate, synthesize, and summarize information and ideas, [and] to conduct original research to answer questions or solve problems…” This growing emphasis on research reflects educators’ shared belief that nurturing strong, critical research skills early on is crucial for developing our students’ critical thinking, problem solving, and sense of civic responsibility. In this course, educators will explore why research skills are essential and applicable in all grades and content areas, learn how to use and teach advanced search techniques, find and explore academic databases available to and appropriate for their students, and design a learning experience that incorporates research skills.

Successful Completion of this course will result in 3 Graduate Credits from CSU Pueblo.
